Our first European soccer game... and the joys of moving!

First of all, I would like to thank you for your prayers after my grandfather and step-father's passing. My time at home with my family was wonderful, and they are doing as well as can be expected. I am just so grateful I had a chance to spend some time with them!

Since coming back to Frankfurt, life has been much busier around here. The day after coming back, we had tickets to go see our very first European football (a.k.a. soccer) game. We went to go cheer on the home team here in Frankfurt... their name is Eintracht, which means "unity" in German. Soccer games here are quite the event... tons of people are avid fans of the game. Even on a weekday, there were over 47,000 people in attendance... and most of them were chanting quite loudly through most of the game. It turned out to be pretty thrilling, though most of the excitement occurred in the last 10 minutes of the game since that is when all the goals were scored. Eintracht ended up winning 2-1, scoring the final goal in stoppage time! We had a great time at the game and look forward to attending many more soccer games during our time over here. Here are a few shots from the game... pretty nice looking stadium (and couple :) eh?

So the game was last Wednesday, and then finally all of our stuff arrived last Thursday! Yes, it took over 3 months for everything to arrive... we did send a small shipment over with Daniel in April so our apartment has not been totally bare, but we were definitely looking forward to getting the rest of it. Well, unfortunately not everything about moving is a joy... especially when there was about a foot of water in all four of our crates when they were opened!!! Apparently, they had been stuck in Hurricane Ike and were flooded... meaning the water had been in there for over a month, which of course resulted in mold. We had mold on several pieces of furniture and some other stuff was damaged... we estimate that we lost about a quarter of our stuff, which we should get reimbursed for... but at least we didn't lose everything! Almost all of our photos and personal momentos were safe, and in the end, it is just stuff, right? It definitely could have been worse, so we are so grateful it wasn't.

Since last Thursday we have just been trying to clean up the "mess" but washing every last thing in the kitchen as well as anything fabric that sat in that damp environment for so long. So lately our free time has been filled with washing dishes, doing massive amounts of laundry, and just trying to get this place organized... it is still a work in progress, but some day it will come together. When it does, I will finally post some pictures of our apartment here on the blog... hopefully that will be sooner rather than later... because that means we are finally done moving in!

Other than the "fun" with our move-in, Daniel's job continues to keep him busy, though he has not been traveling as much lately. As for me, I have been substituting quite a bit at a local primary school (working mostly with 3 year olds... which is quite different from teaching 7th graders!) and I also just got hired to work as a sub at the Frankfurt International School, where I will mainly be covering middle and high school science classes, so I am excited about that! Basically, we are finally getting settled into life here in Frankfurt. Speaking of our new hometown, before I left for California, Daniel and I went on a walking tour of the city, and I was able to get lots of great pictures, so I will posting those up here very soon. Alright, I think it is time for me to get back to cleaning :) As always, thanks for reading!

In Loving Memory...

Grandpa Miller

Clarence

Unlike my previous posts, this is a very sad one as I am writing in loving memory of my grandfather, Cliff Miller (my mom's father) and my step-grandfather, Clarence Winstedt (my dad's step-father). My grandpa passed away this past Friday, October 3rd, and Clarence passed away on August 11th. They were both wonderful, godly men, and while my entire family misses them dearly, we also know that they are in at peace in heaven with their Lord and Savior, and we are all very grateful for the comfort that brings. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Although I will not make it home for my grandpa's funeral, I am very grateful that I will be going back to Northern California for a week next Monday. I was shocked to find a good deal on a flight, but I am thankful that I will be able to spend time with my family very soon.

Once I return to Frankfurt, the pace of daily life should pick up quite a bit. Daniel always seems to be busy with work, but I have been playing "the waiting game" a lot lately, as I am still waiting for my work permit to substitute at the local international and DoD schools, and we are also still waiting for all our stuff to arrive! It actually got "misplaced" for a while, but thankfully it was just delayed due to Hurricane Ike, and it will be arriving in less than 2 weeks. So almost exactly 3 months since leaving San Diego, I will finally get to turn this apartment into our home... I am definitely looking forward to that! And at least we do have our car now... it only took 2 months for that to arrive. If patience is a virtue, then I must be becoming quite virtuous :) Basically I am still adjusting to life here in Germany, but I am sure I will get all settled in time. Well, as always, we appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Until next time... God bless!
